crowdfunding Platforms
Crowdfunding can be used by nonprofits to collect cash donations online to support projects and cover general operating costs.
Grants are not always the best option for raising funds. If your organization needs an immediate influx of money to continue operations, or if your organization provides services that are difficult to fund through traditional grants, crowdfunding—or raising funds by collecting small cash donations online from a large number of people—may be something to consider.
There are several crowdfunding platforms out there, some targeting entrepreneurs and others social causes. Below, we’ve listed a few of the crowdfunding platforms that specifically cater to nonprofit organizations. Please note that we haven’t worked with any of the crowdfunding sites directly, and we’re not endorsing the crowdfunding sites listed below over any others that may exist.
As with any business decision, if you decide to pursue a crowdfunding campaign, we encourage you to thoroughly research your options before choosing a platform based on your needs and factors including fees, ease of use, country restrictions, and payout terms.
If you are based outside of the United States, you may not be able to launch a campaign on some (or all) of the platforms listed below, depending on the country where you are located. However, in some cases, you may be able to arrange for a US-based nonprofit organization to apply for and manage a campaign on your behalf.
